Grade 2 Success for Chantry House in Cotswold Chase
On Saturday at Cheltenham CHANTRY HOUSE outlined his Gold Cup credentials with a tenacious victory in the Grade 2 Cotswold Chase fending off his old stablemate and fellow Tattersalls Cheltenham sales graduate SANTINI.
The son of YEATS had to call upon all his stamina reserves after the last to see off a determined runner up but got the job done in good fashion. He is the second shortest-priced British based candidate for this year’s Gold Cup and all roads now lead to the blue ribbon event in March. It was also a landmark success for his legendary owner J P McManus who saw his colours carried to victory for the 4,000th time.
He was sold by Cian Hughes on behalf of Eric Elliott for £295,000 to Michael Hyde at the 2018 Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale.
It was a big race double for Cheltenham graduates as WINDSOR AVENUE stormed to victory in the feature Listed Sky Bet Handicap Chase for Brian Ellison and owner Phil Martin. The son of WINGED LOVE was well positioned throughout and jumped slickly under Sean Quinlan and in the end won going away from a gallant runner up in the shape of STORM CONTROL another fellow Cheltenham Sales graduate.
WINDSOR AVENUE was sold by Stuart Crawford to owner Phil Martin for £65,000 at the 2017 Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale.
The concluding Listed Bumper on Cheltenham’s Card went the way of the Milton Harris trained MULLENBEG. The daughter of sire of the moment WALK IN THE PARK fairly bolted up in what was a very competitive heat. She was purchased for 42,000gns by her trainer from Mikey Butler’s Harristown Stables off the inaugural Tattersalls Cheltenham December Online Sale.
The next sale to be staged at Cheltenham will be on Thursday 24th February.
