Exceptional trade continues at the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham Festival Sale

 Joint top lots of £330,000 and an increase set of statistics resulted in a hugely successful renewal of the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham Festival Sale. The aggregate finished with a 6% increase of £3,165,000, an impressive rise of 23% in the median to finish on £147,500 and an 11% increase in the average resulting in £158,250. The clearance rate concluded on 83%.

Camilla Sharples has enjoyed many successes on the track with her boss Gordon Elliott, but today was something special for her. Andy Dufrense (Lot 10), owned by Sharples impressed when winning on his debut in the four-year-old Maiden at Borris House. The Doyen gelding will now run for Elliott's Cullentra House after being purchased by the 2018 six-time Cheltenham Festival winning trainer Elliott for £330,000.

£330,000 was also the price paid for Lot 13, Feel My Pulse who was knocked down to Gordon Elliott and agent Mags O'Toole. Feel My Pulse, by Stowaway, was a 15-length winner of the four-year-old Maiden at Lismore and was consigned by Donnchadh Doyle's Monbeg Stables. Feel My Pulse is out of Ken Parkhill's mare Zenaide, herself a winner and dam of black-type performers Myska and Daring Carlotta. Doyle originally purchased the gelding as a three-year-old at the Derby Sale for €60,000.

 Ontheropes (Lot 12) was only beaten a head on his debut run at Punchestown in a four-year-old Maiden for Denis Murphy's Ballyboy Stables. By Presenting, he attracted the attention of 61-time winning Festival trainer Willie Mullins and agent Harold Kirk who purchased him for £240,000.

At the conclusion of the sale, Richard Pugh, Director of Horses in Training Sales at Tattersalls Ireland commented;

"We arrived at the Cheltenham Festival confident that we had compiled a strong catalogue and today's result cemented that confidence. Yet again, Cheltenham as a sales venue, continues to offer both vendors and purchasers the ultimate platform in buying and selling the very best form horses.

"We would like to extend a thank you to our loyal clients who continue to support our sales. We would also like to extend a thank you to the team at Cheltenham Racecourse for giving us the opportunity to stage our sale at National Hunt's greatest showcase."
